Right-Hand Preparation
For this lesson you will hold the guitar using the classical position. Practice plucking (or playing) the open treble strings using free strokes:
- Use your “a” finger to play the first string.
- Use your “m” finger to play the second string.
- Use your “i” finger to play the third string.
Keep the following points in mind as you play free strokes:
- Each free stroke should begin at the knuckle (where the finger meets the hand).
- Your fingers should maintain a relaxed curve shape throughout each stroke.
- Keep a steady beat as you play the pattern slowly.
When you are comfortable playing the right-hand free-stroke pattern, you may add the left hand.
