Left-Hand Preparation

In this lesson, individual numbers will be used to indicate fret numbers. For example, the number 7 represents the seventh fret on the guitar:

• You will use the tip of any left-hand finger (your choice) to hold the first string down against the indicated fret.
• Your finger tip should be next to but not touching the fret. Use just enough left-hand pressure to produce a clear sound.
• Your thumb should maintain a natural position on the back of the neck. Remember to keep your wrist naturally aligned with your hand and forearm.
