Use Good Form
Keep the following points in mind as you play any chord on the guitar :
- Remember to press the strings down with only the tips of your left-hand fingers.
- Make sure that your left-hand fingers do not accidentally touch adjacent strings. If the neck of the guitar is positioned too low, your fingers may have a tendency to touch (and mute) other strings. With the neck of the guitar elevated properly, your left hand will be in a good position to play on the fingertips.
- Avoid any tendency to play with your thumb flexed or extended. By keeping your hand, wrist, and forearm naturally aligned, your thumb should “fall” into a natural position on the back of the guitar neck. Only the pad (of the tip segment) of your thumb should touch the neck. The base of your left palm should never touch the neck.
- To conserve energy, use just enough left-hand pressure to produce a clear sound. Using the correct amount of pressure will also help you produce a better sound.
- Check each string for clarity of sound.
