How to play the E Minor Pentatonic Scale
Let’s play the E minor pentatonic scale by reading tablature. Use your third finger to play notes on the third fret and your second finger to play notes on the second fret:
- Begin by playing the open sixth string, followed by the sixth string, third fret (remember to use your third finger).
- Play the open fifth string, followed by the fifth string, second fret (remember to use your second finger).
- Play the open fourth string, followed by the fourth string, second fret.
- Play the open third string, followed by the third string, second fret.
- Play the open second string, followed by the second string, third fret.
- Play the open first string, followed by the first string, third fret.
- When you have memorized the scale pattern, try playing it in reverse order.
- The scale will be part of your next performance assessment, later in this module. You will be playing the scale both ascending (forward) and descending (backward).
