Chord Quality

Quick Start for Strumming Chords

Chord quality refers to the type of chord being played. In this course, you will learn to play chords with three different qualities: major, minor, and dominant seventh. Each chord quality has a unique (or distinctive) sound.

Because many people associate emotions with the sounds of the different qualities (major, minor, dominant seventh), composers often use these qualities to elicit an emotional response from people listening to their music.

Listen to the chords as they change. Think of words you would use to describe each of the three chords. Do they remind you of an emotion, a place, or an experience?
