Course Requirements (cont.)

Getting Started

From time to time in the course, you will see information presented in the form of tabs. Be sure to select each tab so that you see all the information you need for that lesson. For example, in the set of tabs below, you have five tabs to view: Course Information, DBA, Collaboration, Pace, and Types of Pace. Select each tab to learn more about each of these areas.

Course Information

Understanding the requirements of this course and exploring additional course information is important for successfully completing Guitar I. Please take the time to thoroughly read all of the material in the Course Information area. Take notes and contact your instructor if you have any questions.

Discussion-Based Assessment

A Discussion-Based Assessment (or DBA) is a phone call between you, your instructor, and your parent or guardian. Your instructor will discuss the module's topics with you to assess your knowledge and discuss your progress in the course. At times you might need to play your guitar for your instructor during the DBA. In addition, this is an opportunity to ask your instructor questions. You will need to contact your instructor and complete a DBA for each module.

Collaboration

Throughout Guitar I, you will have opportunities to collaborate with your fellow classmates. You are asked to submit one collaboration assessment in each segment although many Collaboration Opportunities are available. Collaboration can take many forms. There are many 21st century tools available for effective collaboration and communication in the online environment. For more information on tools your school uses, please contact your instructor or visit the Web 2.0 Tools area. Note: If you choose a presentation option that requires the use of one of the Web 2.0 Tools, you will need to read and accept the Web 2.0 Terms of Use. Check with your instructor to learn about other collaboration opportunities that may be offered as alternatives to the provided options. This may include collaborating synchronously with other students in a webinar setting.

Pace

Pace is your rate of movement through the course. The words "rate" and "movement" suggest progress, which is required on a weekly basis. A benefit of learning online is that you determine your own schedule. A challenge is adhering to that schedule. One of your most important tasks is selecting the pace at which you will complete the course projects and lessons. As an online student, you are expected to follow the chosen pace and submit the activities for grading in a timely manner. You will need to determine your completion date and pace. Think about the following questions:

    1. When would you like to be done with the course?
    2. How much time per day or week will you have to devote to the course?
    3. In what order do you intend to complete the modules?

Many factors will influence your decision. Talk to your parent(s) or guardian(s), guidance counselor, and instructor to determine which pace would be best for you. View the Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about how to complete this course.

Please visit the Course Information area to find the pace guides for this course.
